United Continues Fiber Network Expansion in Marshall County as Part of Initiative to Deliver Broadband to Underserved Communities of Middle Tennessee

EXPANSION BRINGS GIGABIT FIBER INTERNET TO EXISTING HOMES AND BUSINESSES IN CHAPEL HILL, TN.

United Communications announced they will continue their ongoing fiber expansion efforts in Chapel Hill, TN, delivering high-speed Internet, with speeds up to 1 Gigabit.   The Chapel Hill Fiber expansion project will deliver upgraded Internet services to approximately 150 new homes and businesses along US-31A/North Horton Pkwy through the center of town.  Construction has just begun with customer installations planned for late Fall 2018.

In addition to the current project underway, United is gathering registrations in several possible future fiber expansion areas in Chapel Hill, potentially giving them the ability to serve another 500 customers. These areas include registration goal zones in the Verona Caney area, the northern portion of US-31A to Polaris Road, and Nathan Street.

Likewise, late last year United Communications and Athena Broadband joined forces to deliver a hybrid mix of fiber and fixed wireless technology with the goal of bringing broadband with speeds up to 50mbps to some of the most rural areas of the state. Most of the areas served with this technology previously had no access to broadband services.

“We are laser focused on delivering broadband options to more residents and businesses in southern Middle Tennessee,” said William Bradford, CEO and President of United Communications. “Chapel Hill is where this company was founded in 1947, and where our headquarters are still located today. It is exciting for us to be able to bring gigabit internet to businesses and residents in the same area that we have served for over 70 years. We are committed to the communities we serve and believe in the importance of bridging the digital divide in Tennessee.”
