Amigo’s Gives Back to the Community

“We were raised to give back,” said Lopez. Once schools began to close, Lopez wanted to find a way to lend a hand. “Parents and single moms are losing their jobs, grandparents are taking care of grandchildren on a fixed income. So, I went to my brother and said, ‘Hey, what can we do?’” Knowing that many children were at home and in need, Amigos put a call-out on Facebook, offering relief. Anyone who needed a meal for their child could call the restaurant and Amigos would bring it to them, no questions asked. “You need it, you got it,” he said. Amigos’ mission has continued well beyond the expected timeline, thanks to additional contributions from the community. The restaurant has now provided the community’s children with more than 1,500 meals.

Through United’s Community Relief Plan, United was able to provide Amigos with additional phone lines in less than a day—as orders were rolling in and time was of the essence. “I like that I was able to call someone, even when it wasn’t her job, and she helped me and then led me to the right person who I needed to talk to right away. Time, for me, was very important,” affirms Lopez.

This no-cost addition of a hosted PBX phone service allowed employees to take multiple orders at once, increasing sales and allowing Amigos to continue serving the community. “United’s service was beyond great. They went above and beyond, explaining how to use the phone system. If I have any problems, they easily guide me through the appropriate steps. It’s an absolutely smooth process,” Lopez added.

The additional phone lines allowed Amigos to better serve its customers, but Lopez and his family knew that they had to find a way to give something back to the community during such a challenging time.
