When Sheila Griffy found out she’d won United Communications’ Ultimate CMA Fest Giveaway, she wasn’t just surprised—she thought she was being pranked. “I’d completely forgotten I even entered,” she said, laughing. “I was on a work call when the voicemail came in, and I thought, wait…this is real?”
In all fairness to Sheila, she received the news right around April Fools’ Day. But this was no joke. And if anyone deserves a backstage pass to the biggest country music bash in the world, it’s Sheila—a powerhouse of personality, energy, and love for all things live music and her local community.
Sheila lives just on the other side of Henry Horton State Park in Lewisburg, Tennessee, a rural patch of Marshall County that’s rich in natural beauty—and, thanks to United Communications, ultra-fast and reliable fiber internet. “I was shocked when I got the invitation to upgrade to fiber,” she said. “It’s incredible. We stream everything—PlayStation 5, Echos, you name it—and we’ve never had connectivity issues. In fact, it’s better than the internet I have in my Cool Springs office.”
That office is where Sheila works in property management, juggling building maintenance needs, dispatches, and remote coordination—all of which became even more critical when she worked from home a few years ago. “I had to keep things running from home. United’s internet never let me down, even when I was managing emergencies remotely.”
And her house? It’s a full one. Sheila lives with her daughter and two grandkids who keep her schedule packed with baseball tournaments and tech-fueled activity. “We don’t have cable—we stream everything. And (Amazon’s) Alexa keeps us sane. She reminds me to take the meatloaf out of the oven, turns off the TV, and runs the house.”
A United customer for over a decade, Sheila’s connection to the company goes back even further—growing up in Williamson County with United’s telephone service. “I’ve had Comcast and AT&T before, but they couldn’t compare. With United, you actually feel like you matter. The customer service is fantastic. When a delivery truck snapped the pole outside my house, United had it fixed by the end of the day. That’s impressive.”
The small-town fiber access still amazes her. “People don’t expect this kind of internet out here. But United made it happen. I’m so grateful for a local company that cares.”
When she’s not managing properties or doting on her grandchildren, Sheila’s a regular at live music events. On weekends, she works at The Caverns—a famous underground music venue in Middle Tennessee—shuttling guests and soaking in performances across genres. “Last year, I saw 94 shows at The Caverns alone,” she said.
Sheila’s prize includes two lower-level stadium passes for all four nights of CMA Fest, two tickets to Fan Fair X, and a Festival Fun Pack loaded with exclusive goodies and swag. She’ll also enjoy a four-night stay at the luxurious Grand Hyatt hotel, located just steps away from the action.
So, who’s the lucky guest who will get to tag along? “I plan to rotate my guests,” said Sheila. “My daughter, my son, each grandkid gets a night. Knox is already campaigning to see Blake Shelton.”
Sheila isn’t just excited about the music—she’s also looking forward to revisiting her downtown Nashville roots, but this time as a bona fide tourist. “I used to work down there, but staying there? That’s a whole new level.”
United Communications is proud to have Sheila Griffy as a neighbor and fiber internet customer, and we’re thrilled about the unforgettable experiences she’ll have at CMA Fest this summer.
