Empowering Murfreesboro: Inside United Communications’ New Rutherford Operations Center

By Kaitlyn Kerrigan, Community Engagement Coordinator

At United Communications, we believe in being more than just a telecommunications company and internet service provider. We’re a local company, deeply invested in the communities we serve and committed to making Middle Tennessee the best possible place to live and do business.

Rutherford County and the wonderful communities that make it up—from LaVergne and Smyrna to Murfreesboro and Eagleville—have been an integral part of the United family for years.  Last year, we announced our most ambitious investment in Murfreesboro to date: an $85 million multi-year infrastructure project. This project will create 1,400 route miles of new fiber-optic lines, bringing the power of multi-gig internet service to an additional 77,000 homes and businesses across Rutherford County. At the heart of this expansion lies the exciting new Rutherford Operations Center (ROC). Through the ROC, we’ll be able to provide an even better experience for our service areas, including:

1. Enhanced Customer Experience and Support Services

We’ve built our reputation on exceptional customer service. The Rutherford Operations Center allows us to take that commitment to the next level. Previously, our technicians often had to travel long distances from our Chapel Hill and Berry Farms offices to service areas in  Rutherford County. This new center allows us to provide closer support, significantly reduce response times, and ultimately improve the overall customer experience for residents and businesses in the area.

2. Economic Development and Job Opportunities

We’re passionate about creating opportunities within the communities we serve. We were recently recognized as one of the best large companies to work for in Middle Tennessee, and we’re excited to extend our culture to Rutherford County. The ROC brings approximately 150 new jobs to the area, encompassing diverse departments like Planning/Engineering, Outside Plant Operations, I&R (Install and Repair), and Warehousing.

3. Stronger Collaboration with Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE)

Over the past five years, our partnership with MTE has played a crucial role in enhancing the lives of residents and businesses across Middle Tennessee. Both companies share a dedication to improving the quality of life in our region. With MTE occupying the other half of the building, we can foster more collaboration and synergy. This proximity enables seamless communication and enhances our collective ability to serve the community effectively, further solidifying our commitment to mutual growth and success.

4. Deepened Community Presence and Involvement

Giving back to the communities we serve is core to our values. At United, we’ve invested in hundreds of local events, from neighborhood fish fries to county fairs. The ROC will serve as a springboard to further our community involvement in Rutherford County and its many communities.

Empowering Murfreesboro

Our commitment to empowering Murfreesboro goes beyond delivering high-speed internet; it’s about fostering connectivity, driving economic growth, and building stronger communities. We’re enthusiastic about the positive impact the ROC will have on Rutherford County for years to come.
