United recently spoke with Will Ivy, a longtime United customer who says reliable internet has become one of those essentials his family simply doesn’t have time to worry about.
Will, a CFO for a Nashville-based construction company, lives in College Grove with his wife, their three children, and the family dog. For a busy household balancing work, school, streaming, and daily life, dependable internet is part of the routine that keeps everything moving forward.
“It’s an integral part of our day-to-day life with three kids,” Will said.
He first became a United customer when his family moved to the College Grove area. At the time, he did not know much about United Communications. It was simply the provider available in the neighborhood. Over time, though, that practical choice turned into something more meaningful—a service experience that is refreshingly consistent.
“Didn’t really know anything about United,” Will recalled. “It was just, ‘Hey, here’s your option for internet service.’”
Internet that keeps up with family life
Like many families, the Ivys rely on their internet connection for a little bit of everything. Streaming platforms, live sports, kids’ shows, and occasional work-from-home days all compete for bandwidth under one roof.
“Everything is streaming,” Ivy said. “YouTube TV, Netflix, Disney Plus, all that stuff.”
That makes reliability especially important. Rainy days, cold evenings, and busy weeks at home are a lot easier when the connection works the way it is supposed to.
“Having that up and reliable is a really big deal,” he said.
Ivy said entertainment is probably the household’s biggest use for internet, but it also matters for productivity. His wife works from home part of the time, and when he does work remotely, he says he never has to question whether the connection will hold up.
“My wife works from home a little bit,” Ivy said. “Having reliable internet is really, really important to her.”
In a rural area, reliability stands out
While Will’s home is part of a planned neighborhood, he says the area still feels remote.
“It’s a planned development, but it is rural,” he said. “We live out in the country.”
With the nearest grocery store about 15 minutes away, everyday conveniences aren’t always close by, making reliable internet even more essential.
Before switching to United, Will said his expectations for internet service providers were fairly low.
“My expectation with internet service providers is just like, you’re going to have issues with them from time to time,” he said. That is part of why United stood out.
“I’m more likely for my power to be out than my internet,” Will shared. “You just don’t have to think about it. It just works.”
Consistent service without headaches
For Will, one of the biggest compliments he can give his internet provider is how little attention it requires. “They came and gave me my modem six years ago and I don’t think I’ve seen them since, which is kind of what you want from your ISP,” he said.
He also pointed to something many customers notice immediately: consistency.
“I don’t think my rate has changed in six years,” Will said. “I have not had one outage to my knowledge in six years.” That kind of stability has made a lasting impression, especially compared with past experiences elsewhere.
“United kind of reset my expectations for what an internet service provider can be in terms of reliability and customer experience,” he said. (Watch Will share more about his experience in his own words here!)
A straightforward recommendation
As the Ivy family prepares to move in the coming months, Will says one downside is the possibility of leaving United behind. “I’m actually legitimately bummed that I don’t think United’s over there and so they’re not going to be our ISP anymore,” he said.
When asked what he would say to someone considering a switch, Ivy did not hesitate.
“If you want extremely reliable internet at a fair price that doesn’t change, you just go with United because that’s what you’ll get.”
For families like the Ivys, reliable fiber internet is not just about speed. It is about removing one more source of stress from a busy household and replacing it with something simple: confidence that the internet will work when they need it.
