At United Communications, Community is at the core of our mission, and we take pride in providing more than world-class connectivity. From sponsoring local events and supporting educational initiatives to volunteering and developing community relief programs, our dedication to our community remains a priority all year long.
As we transition from the warm, event-filled months of summer into the vibrant start of fall, it’s a perfect moment to reflect on how United Communications connected and celebrated with our neighbors across Middle Tennessee. Here’s a look at some of our summer and back-to-school highlights and a glimpse into our ongoing commitment to community engagement.
Back To School and Beyond
This summer marked the 14th year of our annual scholarship program which awarded a total of $24,000 to six graduating seniors from area high schools. Since its inception, the United Community Foundation has awarded more than $55,000 in merit-based grants to 26 local students based on their academic performance, character, leadership skills, and commitment to community service.
One organization we continue to invest in is Boys & Girls Clubs across Middle Tennessee. In 2022, through Project UNITE, we were able to equip the Boys & Girls Club of Bedford County with broadband internet—empowering their staff and students with a reliable connection to educational resources.
In July, we were able to expand our support of this incredible organization by partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rutherford County for the first time. As Silver Sponsors of their 35th annual Stake & Burger Dinner, we helped bolster the organization’s fundraising efforts. All proceeds from the event went to support the Rutherford County chapter, which serves over 2,600 children across three counties.
Our inaugural Back to School Giveaway kicked off the 2024-2025 academic year on a high note. The winner received a backpack filled with important school supplies, a tablet, and gift cards totaling $500. The community’s enthusiastic response has ensured this initiative will be a continuing part of our support for local education.
Expanding Connectivity Initiatives
Just in time for the summer festivals and celebrations that the City of Franklin is known for, we launched a free public Wi-Fi network to service the city’s historic downtown. The network spans an area that stretches two blocks to the north and south and one block east and west of the public square.
Throughout the year, downtown Franklin hosts three highly-anticipated festivals: The Main Street Festival, PumpkinFest, and Dickens of a Christmas. These seasonal festivals attract over 300,000 visitors annually and contribute an estimated $10 million to the local economy. The free public Wi-Fi network United provides ensures residents, business owners, and visitors in Franklin’s historic city center can stay connected to fast, reliable internet service, even during periods of peak cellular network demand.
United in Celebration
Throughout the year, we actively participate in and sponsor numerous local events. A highlight of the season is always the Nolensville Star Spangled Celebration, an event we’ve enjoyed attending for years. With dozens of local food vendors, live music, and fireworks, this celebration has become a cornerstone of our summer activities, reflecting our deep-rooted commitment to uniting our neighbors.
Another spectacular and memorable event we sponsored this year took place in our home base of Chapel Hill. When we learned the annual 4th of July celebration was at risk of cancellation due to lack of funds, we were honored to step in and provide the necessary sponsorship to ensure this grand event took place.
Whether we’re showing up for the annual Wings for Freedom Fish Fry in Smyrna or visiting the world-famous Wilson County Fair, we love connecting with neighbors and supporting local events!
