Business Customer Spotlight: Back Nine Golf

Middle Tennessee has fallen in love with golf in a big way (both on and off the course), and Jeff and Tracy Baumer have stepped right into that momentum.

As the local franchisees of The Back Nine Golf in Spring Hill and soon-to-open Mt. Juliet, the couple is bringing a fresh, family-friendly experience to two fast-growing communities. Their facilities offer 24/7 indoor golf, professional instruction, and all the data-driven swing analytics that today’s golfers crave.

Jeff and Tracy began exploring franchise opportunities with a simple goal: build a business their whole family could enjoy. Golf quickly rose to the top of their list.

“We wanted something fun, something our kids could be part of, and something that really brought people together,” Jeff shared. “Indoor golf has exploded. Courses can’t be built fast enough, and this became the perfect intersection of something we love and something the community needs.”

For Tracy, who grew up in the Nashville area, the draw was also about creating an inviting space for golfers of every level.

“A lot of women feel more comfortable learning indoors,” she explained. “There’s no pressure of a foursome queued up behind you. You can just play at your own pace and have fun.”

The Baumers have even partnered with a local PGA pro, Natalie Sheary, who oversees all golf instruction and helps players improve their game through personalized coaching.

A visit to The Back Nine feels like stepping into a modern golf clubhouse. Guests have access to four expansive simulator bays, a bevy of TVs, digital surround sound, an open social space, and even a conference room for businesses hosting client outings or team events.

Many guests play full rounds in just 90 minutes—a major perk for busy professionals. “Doctors, first responders, second-shift workers… people love being able to play at all hours,” Jeff said. “We run leagues literally 24/7.”

Behind the scenes, all of that experience relies heavily on high-performance internet. The simulators produce enormous amounts of data, including swing speed, launch angle, ball spin, and more. All that information is seamlessly stored and synced in the cloud thanks to United’s symmetrical bandwidth that provides matching multi-gig download and upload speeds. Players can pull up their data at home, track their progress, or compete in national tournaments. Strong upload speeds are especially crucial. “I can jump into a bay remotely to troubleshoot something in real time without interrupting anyone’s game,” Jeff said. “That two-way speed is huge.”

The Baumers were introduced to United Communications through their contractor and appreciated the alignment with Middle Tennessee Electric.

“The United team was fantastic—responsive, local, and easy to work with,” Tracy added. “As small business owners opening multiple sites, it helped knowing we had a single point of contact and a team that really understood what we needed.”

For the Baumers, choosing a local provider mattered. Community is central to their business, from local chamber involvement to fundraising events for area schools and youth golf programs.

“We’re here to be part of the fabric of Spring Hill and Mt. Juliet,” Jeff said. “Working with a company that’s also rooted in Middle Tennessee just made sense.”

As Spring Hill continues to welcome golfers through its doors and the location in Mt. Juliet prepares to open, the Baumers are energized by what’s ahead. They’re building a place where families, athletes, and newcomers can connect, play, and grow the game together, one swing at a time.
