Customer Spotlight: Kim Rogers, Summer Connections Giveaway Winner

United Communications internet customer Kim Rogers loves her job as the head chef at First Presbyterian Church Nashville, in spite of the hour and forty minute rush hour commute between her workplace and her home in Chapel Hill, Tennessee. For Kim and her family, being a part of a quiet, close-knit community is well worth the effort.

“I used to visit my grandparents here when I was a kid and would always go by Rex’s Grocery Store,” said Kim. “I always said that one day I would live in Chapel Hill, so we finally moved here about seven years ago from Rockvale. I like how the houses aren’t close together, and everyone is very, very friendly.”

Between her job, her duties as a caretaker to her husband and older brother, and her loving devotion to four grandchildren, Kim does her best to make the most of every moment she has with her family and every dollar she earns to support them.

Soon after moving to Chapel Hill, Kim signed up for satellite internet service so that her family could access their favorite TV shows, connect with the kids’ teachers online, and stay in touch with family and friends. Unfortunately, most satellite customers can tell you all about the finicky nature of having to deal with “the dish.”

“Any time it rained, it seemed like the system would go out,” said Kim. “Pretty much any time you had to use the Wi-Fi and it was stormy, it usually wouldn’t work. And then it got very expensive, and that’s when we said enough is enough.”

With a $300 monthly bill and unreliable, spotty service, Kim began looking for an alternative. She encountered a familiar name while chatting with a neighbor who recommended fiber broadband service by United Communications.

“I knew about United because my grandparents used their telephone service, but as far as internet goes, I didn’t know about that until I talked with the neighbors,” Kim explained.

After one phone call to United Communications, an installation technician was at her property by the next day and even helped Kim box up her satellite dish and other rented equipment to return to her former service provider.

“It’s a great company, and we get a great value for what we’re paying,” said Kim. “In fact, my sister lives on the next street over from us, and they were satellite customers. Well, they now have United, and they’re very happy with it.”

When she’s able to wrestle the remote away from the grandkids, Kim’s go-to streaming service is the Hallmark Channel.

“It’s just comforting,” Kim laughed. “It’s such a happy place.”

Over the past seven years, Kim has quickly earned a reputation as the most spirited holiday decorator in her neighborhood. When she won an outdoor movie theater system from United Communications as part of its “Summer Connections” giveaway earlier this year, she knew immediately how the grandkids would respond.

“They told me, ‘Grandma, we’ve got to hook it up for Halloween,’” said Kim, who is famous among her neighbors for her elaborate Halloween decorations, including animatronic werewolves, projectors casting bats and pumpkins onto the side of the house, and lights crisscrossing her entire yard.

“We usually have 400-500 kids coming out to the house, and it takes about three weeks to decorate it,” explained Kim. “We’re going to use the new movie equipment to show Hocus Pocus in our front yard for all the trick-or-treaters.”

For Kim, switching to fiber broadband service from United Communications has been all treats and no tricks. And the one frightful fixture you won’t find on Kim’s property this Halloween is a satellite dish.

“If any of my neighbors were still using a dish, I would definitely tell them to go with United,” said Kim. “But since no one on our street has satellites on their roofs anymore, I’m pretty sure they already have.”
