Customer Spotlight: Dan Ryan

Dan Ryan knew about United Communications long before becoming a customer. As a leadership consultant and an engineering physics major, Dan has always kept a close eye on economic development, including the expansion of broadband internet to rural areas. Having lived in middle Tennessee for the last 40 years, Dan has witnessed the significant economic growth and development of the area. But even with so much development, thousands of middle Tennesseeans remain without internet access.

Through its Project UNITE initiative, United Communications is working to bridge the digital divide and provide high-speed internet to under-connected residents and business owners in Middle Tennessee. Dan appreciates United’s mission, not just because it serves his family but because of the greater impact on the Middle Tennessee community.

“Competition is a great thing. When providers like United come into any market, it improves for just about everybody, and those who don’t improve end up going by the wayside.”

One example of this is the internet provider Dan used before United Communications. Around the same time every afternoon, Dan’s internet would go out. This happened every single day. Dan works from home, so the outage was a huge problem. 

“I had a lot of conversations with my previous provider about the outage situation, and I would always get the same answer. A lot of reboots. A lot of resets. But never a long-term solution.”

For the last 26 years, Dan and his wife have lived in Williamson County. I can’t think of a reason why I wouldn’t have made the switch to United. The only thing I regret is that I didn’t make the switch sooner.”
