FRANKLIN, Tenn. (Feb. 18, 2025)—Local internet company United Communications, a leading fiber broadband provider serving Middle Tennessee, proudly announces the launch of its free public Wi-Fi network in the historic town square of Petersburg, Tennessee.
The network’s coverage area includes popular local businesses and essential services, including:
- The Babe Shop
- Colt Show Antiques and Hardwoods
- Good Shepherd Coffee Company
- Miss Jean’s Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop
- Willow & Reed
- Petersburg Community Library
- Petersburg Fire Department
- Petersburg Post Office
- Petersburg Town Hall
To use the free Wi-Fi service, users can search for the network called “access.united.net” on any internet-connected device. A password is not required.
Petersburg is the third town center to receive free public Wi-Fi service from United Communications. The company launched similar networks in downtown Shelbyville in 2023 and downtown Franklin in 2024.
The free Wi-Fi installation is the result of an email from Mark Eichler, owner of Colt Show Antiques and Hardwoods in Petersburg’s town square. He wrote to United Communications requesting coverage for local businesses and their patrons due to poor mobile phone coverage in the area.
“We now have Wi-Fi on the Square,” Mark shared in a recent Facebook post. “No password required and blazing fast. When you visit the merchants in Petersburg, you’ll now have internet access and if you have Wi-Fi calling you’ll have phone access as well. We want to thank United Communications for their rapid response to our request…no way could this have happened without their rapid response.”
“We were excited to extend our fiber network to the residents of Petersburg in 2024. And as a locally headquartered business, we love opportunities like this to partner with our neighbors to make our communities a better place to work and live,” said William Bradford, President and CEO of United Communications. “We’re grateful to Mark for reaching out to us and to the leaders in the town of Petersburg for the opportunity to serve the community in this special way.”
After completing several projects to connect underserved residents in Petersburg and northern Lincoln County, United is spearheading a $12 million investment in southern Marshall County to serve roughly 2,500 additional homes and businesses in the area, 1,000 of which currently have no access to any type of internet service.
Only United Communications offers Middle Tennessee’s fastest residential fiber service with download and upload speeds of up to 8 Gbps, all with no contracts, data caps, or hidden fees. Monthly plans start at just $49.95 and are backed by the company’s commitment to world-class customer service.
